Under the direction of Superintendent Dr. Marlon King, The Fayette County School System offers an education that is both intellectual and practical.
Fayette County offers several elementary schools, located throughout the area, which provide opportunities such as the High Achievers Program and athletics.
After completing the fourth grade, students attend either West Jr High or East Jr High. West is located in Oakland and East in Somerville. Both schools accommodate students in grades 5-8.
Students enter Fayette-Ware High School in grade 9. Fayette-Ware is located north of Somerville. One of the unique features of Fayette-Ware is its vocational department, which offers training in such areas as auto repair, electronics, health occupations and office technology. Fayette-Ware also offers dual credit courses and distance learning classes.
All Fayette county Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Two junior high schools serve grades 5-8. One school is located just north of Somerville near Fayette-Ware High School. The other school is located in Oakland south of Highway 64. The east school (Somerville) will serve students who live in the central, Jefferson, LaGrange-Moscow and Somerville elementary school districts. West Junior High School (Oakland) will serve students who live in the Oakland, Southwest and Northwest elementary school districts. When the junior high program goes into effect, students will continue through ninth grade at junior high and enter Fayette-Ware in tenth grade.
